Annie Landor - Special thanks to the Nicholson family
I love this photo of Annie. I began by experimenting with a double exposure of her face. Then the
shadow of her afterimage seemed perfect for introducing a pattern from French tilework from the
early 1800s. The photo of white spring flowers seemed a perfect compliment below her. I kept the
right side of the piece simple with a backlit sheer curtain. Behind Annie is a small antique ceramic
doll.
Dr. Henry Landor - Special thanks to the Nicholson family
I began by giving Dr. Landor a gothic halo, turning him into a saint. Roses seemed lovely added
to his jacket. The small bird was added after it few into my window. There is a Vatican passport
from the mid 1800s added along with an Italian letter. The Salmon berries and the graffiti were
from outside a closed down Native residential school on the BC coast.
Madonna
The image of the faceless little girl in a dress is from the daguerreotypes collection at the Library
of Congress. I found this image haunting and a good place to start this collage. There are many
elements surrounding her that all seemed to tell a story. Spiral staircase, seed pods, cathedral
dome, lock, spider, bicycle, shells, tile floor, ....The pomegranate is a symbol fertility. The antique
dolls also helped finish the piece.
